History

Historical Context

Facing a 2-4 start in 2026, the Colts dismissed GM Chris Ballard, echoing the franchise’s 1984 upheaval when owner Robert Irsay moved the team from Baltimore to Indianapolis after the Maryland legislature threatened eminent-domain. Indianapolis lured the club with a $12.5 million loan, a new training complex and the Hoosier Dome, prompting 15 moving trucks to depart on March 29, 1984.
