History

Historical Context

When Sir Alex Ferguson retired from Manchester United in 2013, the club’s 13-year Premier League dominance abruptly ended. Ferguson’s 26-year tenure produced 38 trophies, including 13 league titles and a £1.5 billion increase in the club’s valuation. Now, interim coach Michael Carrick confronts a seven-game winless streak while owners consider Eddie Howe, mirroring the chaotic post-Ferguson hiring spree. Failure to restore humility could trigger a significant 30% points decline, echoing United’s 2014-15 season that fell to 14th place and jeopardized revenue.
