History

Historical Context

Manchester United’s current slump and interim appointment of Michael Carrick echo earlier crises in the city’s history. Manchester endured post-World War II deindustrialisation and a devastating 1996 bombing that triggered large-scale regeneration, illustrating a pattern of decline followed by renewal. Today the city houses over 589,000 residents, underscoring the stakes of any sporting downturn.
