History

Historical Context

BBC’s 20 November 1995 Panorama interview with Diana, Princess of Wales—watched by 23 million UK viewers—shattered the corporation’s deference to the monarchy and preceded the royal divorce announcement later that December. The deceitful tactics uncovered in 2020 led the BBC to bar the footage. Prince Harry’s 2026 GQ interview echoes that rupture, again pulling royal conflict onto global media.
