History

Historical Context

The 2026 explosion at Surya Sri Fireworks in Vetlapalem, Andhra Pradesh killed 21 workers after the factory employed far more staff than its eight-person licence allowed. The five-person death blast in Alampur, Bihar, which led Siwan police to suspend officer Chandrika Manjhi, mirrors that pattern of illegal over-staffing and weak inspections. The recurrence underscores persistent gaps in India’s fireworks safety enforcement.
