In 2026, attackers fired over 60 rounds at dairy businessman Ratan Lohia, killing him.

History

Historical Context

The United States and India signed an extradition treaty in 1997, creating a formal mechanism for transferring fugitives. The treaty has been invoked repeatedly, and the FBI’s 2024 arrest of Himanshu Bhau, wanted for gang murders in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab, now triggers that process. The case shows how the 1997 agreement continues to shape Indo-U.S. law-enforcement cooperation.
