England entered the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland as defending champions, but New Zealand defeated them 41-32 in the Dublin final before a record 17,115 spectators. The tournament, held in Dublin and Belfast, marked a shift to a three-year cycle before returning to four years and led World Rugby to rename future events simply “Rugby World Cup.”
