History

Historical Context

The June 2015 collapse of a three-storey Kenyatta University dorm followed earlier Nairobi failures, such as the six-story building that fell on 4 January 2015, killing one person. Repeated unlicensed high-rise failures, including the 2025 Eastleigh tower built by 9th Street Plaza Limited and overseen by Stromax Holdings E.A., have spurred Kenya’s County Governments and the Kenya Building Code to tighten enforcement.
