History

Historical Context

In 1980 the Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals met in the World Series, the first since 1920 in which both clubs were seeking their first championship, and the series went six games. That rarity reappeared in 2026 as the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays, each also chasing inaugural titles, echoing the 1980 novelty.
