History

Historical Context

The first modern World Series in 1903 saw the Boston Americans defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates five games to three, establishing the annual AL-NL championship. That breakthrough gave rise to a century-long pursuit of record seasons, a pattern reflected in teams like the New York Yankees—who hold 27 titles—and the Milwaukee Brewers, still seeking their inaugural World Series victory.
