History

Historical Context

The Feb 25 1994 Hebron massacre, when American-Israeli physician Baruch Goldstein opened fire on worshippers in the Cave of the Patriarchs, killing 29 Palestinians and wounding 125, provoked mass protests, a two-week curfew and Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s condemnation. Decades later, October 2026 settler attacks during the West Bank olive harvest—530 incidents recorded and ten suspects arrested—show the same settlement-related violence persists, undermining the stalled two-state peace effort.
