Sudden Passing
Former Port Adelaide Power forward Daniel Stewart died suddenly at the age of 37. The club confirmed his death on October 24, 2026 and described the loss as “devastating” for the football family.
Playing Career
Stewart was selected with pick No 35 in the 2009 rookie draft and promoted to the senior list at the end of that season. He debuted in round four of 2010 against Geelong and recorded a career-high four goals in the final round of 2010 against Richmond, helping the Power secure a ten-point win. Over four AFL seasons (2010-2013) he played 36 games and kicked 31 goals as a 200-centimetre key forward. Prior to his AFL career he progressed through the Eastern Ranges, Queensland club Labrador and SANFL side North Adelaide. He was originally from Melbourne, where he attended Box Hill Senior Secondary College.
Club Statement
Port Adelaide chief executive Matthew Richardson issued a statement extending “deepest condolences” to Stewart’s family—mum Donna, dad Byron, wife Laura, sons Bernie and Lando, and brother Leigh. Richardson also acknowledged Stewart’s close friend and former teammate Matt Thomas and the broader community at North Adelaide and Labrador. The club pledged support for teammates, coaches and staff affected by the loss and announced that it will honour Stewart by wearing black armbands at its first home match at Adelaide Oval in 2027.
Tributes from Peers

Planned Commemoration
In addition to the armband tribute, the Power will provide ongoing assistance to those grieving within the club, reinforcing the sense of family that Stewart embodied throughout his career.
