Historical Context

In May 2000, President K. R. Narayanan enacted the Information Technology Act, a 94-section law that gave India legal recognition for electronic records and digital signatures, making it the world’s 12th nation with dedicated IT legislation. Building on that framework, the 2023 Digital Personal Data Protection Act, taught in NCERT’s AI module co-created with IIT Madras and IIT Jodhpur, reinforces the same privacy principles for today’s students.
