History

Historical Context

India’s history of large-scale terror, from the 1993 Bombay bombings that killed 257, culminated in the 26 November 2008 Mumbai attacks—12 coordinated strikes by ten Lashkar-e-Taiba gunmen that left 175 dead. The crisis spurred the creation of the National Investigation Agency and new anti-terror laws, and it accelerated police reliance on CCTV and digital data for future investigations.
