History

Historical Context

After the 1993 Oslo I Accord recognized the PLO and created the Palestinian Authority, Israeli settlement construction continued, with the West Bank settler population rising from about 116,000 in 1993 to over 203,000 by 2000. Netanyahu’s government expanded existing settlements while limiting new sites, a trend that has fueled recurring clashes and recent arrests of Italian activists in Kiryat Arba.
