History

Historical Context

In 1992-93 Kevin Keegan, newly appointed by chairman John Hall, turned Newcastle United’s four-year top-flight exile into a First Division title, amassing 96 points and securing promotion for the 1993-94 Premier League. Andy Cole’s 12 goals in the final stretch epitomised the surge that now warns Southampton, after a four-point deduction, that early penalties demand consistent results to avoid a repeat.
