History

Historical Context

When the WNBA launched in 1997 with eight franchises, pioneers like Lisa Leslie and Sheryl Swoopes set the league’s modest early tone. Successive CBAs, culminating in the 2026 seven-year agreement that caps individual salaries at $1.4 million, have transformed that foundation into multi-million EPIC extensions for current stars Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell.
