History

Historical Context

Florida’s 2000 presidential recount, sparked by George W. Bush’s 537-vote win over Al Gore, exposed punch-card flaws and led Congress to pass the Help America Vote Act in 2002, modernizing ballots and early-voting. Donald Trump’s October 2026 appearance at a Palm Beach County poll draws on that legacy, highlighting ongoing scrutiny of Florida’s voting procedures.
