History

Historical Context

In January 2000, the Oklahoma Sooners captured the BCS National Championship by defeating Florida State 13-2 in the Orange Bowl. Coach Bob Stoops guided the 13-0 squad to a 411-point season total while limiting opponents to 171 points, a +240 differential. Today's Mississippi State injury setbacks echo Oklahoma’s 2000 reliance on backup quarterbacks like Billy Puckett, who stepped in after starter Kamario Taylor’s toe injury. Both eras illustrate how depth charts and veteran leadership, exemplified by Dak Prescott’s praise, can sustain competitive performance despite sudden player losses.
