History

Historical Context

After the SEC added Arkansas and South Carolina in 1990, the league reached twelve members, split into East and West divisions and staged its first football championship game in 1992. The move unlocked a lucrative CBS contract worth $95 million, reshaping recruiting and rivalries. Today’s LSU-Auburn showdown reflects that era’s parity and heightened competition.
