History

Historical Context

In 1967 the Michigan Wolverines, under Bump Elliott, posted a 4–6 record and finished fifth in the Big Ten. That same season Indiana, coached by John Pont, captured the conference title—the program’s last league crown until 2025 and the final non-Michigan/Ohio State champion until Iowa in 1981. The recent overtime win revives a rivalry that has long favored Michigan.
