History

Historical Context

After the 2002 Operation Defensive Shield—Israel’s month-long West Bank offensive launched on March 29 following the Netanya Passover massacre—IDF forces entered Ramallah, sealed Hebron and other cities, and called up 30,000 reservists. The operation imposed curfews and restricted movement, sparking international criticism, a pattern echoed today by Hebron’s evacuation and the sealing of al-Arroub camp.
