History

Historical Context

Operation Safed Sagar, the Indian Air Force’s air campaign in the 1999 Kargil War, achieved air superiority by flying high-altitude strikes; its Mirage-2000 squadrons alone logged 514 combat sorties. The success spurred a modernization drive that added Su-30MKI fighters and indigenous Tejas jets. Today’s Wings Over Ganges show in Varanasi showcases that expanded fleet.
