History

Historical Context

Since South Africa’s readmission in 1992, fast-bowling stars such as Allan Donald—who took 16 wickets in the 1999 World Cup and was run-out in the semi-final—have been pivotal. Recurrent injuries, from Donald’s later injury-laden career to Anrich Nortje’s 2024 groin strain, push selectors to call up emerging pacers like Gerald Coetzee and Corbin Bosch, prompting Cricket South Africa to broaden its pace academy.
