Incident Overview
On the night of October 21, CCTV footage captured Ritish Sharma slapping and pulling his wife, Twinkle, by the hair outside their home in the Jassia Green Enclave area of Ludhiana, Punjab. After Twiddle fled to a neighbour’s house, Sharma pursued her, dragged her onto the road and continued beating her in public. Neighbours intervened after hearing her screams. Twinkle, who runs a salon, filed a formal police complaint and submitted the video as evidence.
Background & Context
Twinkle, 28, married Sharma in November 2025 following a friendship that began during her divorce proceedings. The marriage is her second; she has a seven-year-old son from the previous union. According to the complaint, Sharma began demanding a Mahindra Thar SUV three months after the wedding, later adding a motorcycle to his dowry expectations. The dispute reportedly resurfaced despite an earlier mediation settlement, and a loan of Rs 50,000 was taken using Twinkle’s card, according to her statements.
Official Response
Inspector Jasvir Singh of Haibowal police station said investigators are awaiting Twinkle’s medico-legal report before proceeding. ASI Sukhjinder Singh confirmed that the case is being probed based on the victim’s complaint and the CCTV evidence. Police officials indicated that an FIR will be registered shortly after the medical report is received.
