Historical Context

The July 2012 trade sending Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers arrived during a year dominated by marquee sports events, notably the London Summer Olympics (July 27–August 12) and Corinthians’ Copa Libertadores victory. Those spectacles highlighted a trend of blockbuster moves reshaping leagues, a pattern echoed later by the 2027 Celtics-76ers deal and LeBron James’ reported Philadelphia shift.
