Core Announcement: Janneeti Bharat to Field Candidates in All 403 Seats
During a public outreach in Chunar, Mirzapur, former Indian Administrative Service officer Divya Mittal declared that her newly formed Janneeti Bharat Party will contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in every constituency where it can locate a strong candidate.
Background: From Civil Service to Electoral Politics
Mittal, an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore alumnus, entered the civil services in 2013, ranking 68th in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam. She served in the Uttar Pradesh cadre, including stints as district magistrate in Sant Kabir Nagar, Mirzapur and Deoria, and later as Special Secretary in the Revenue Department. On August 30 she resigned from the IAS, and the Uttar Pradesh government accepted her resignation on September 15, ending a 13-year bureaucratic career.
Party Platform and Promises
Janneeti Bharat’s three stated promises focus on placing citizens at the centre of policymaking, (2) basing decisions on needs rather than identities, and ensuring public accountability for every action. Mittal has said the party will rely on a door-to-door campaign rather than costly advertising, treating every household as an office.
Data & Statistics: Uttar Pradesh Assembly Composition
The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly comprises 403 constituencies. Janneeti Bharat’s pledge to contest all seats therefore requires the recruitment of 403 candidates, a logistical challenge the party acknowledges but says it will meet by “finding strong contenders” across the state.
On-the-Ground Reports
Supporters greeted Mittal with drums, traditional music, and visits to local religious sites, including the ancient Agrasen Shiv Temple and the Baba Qasim Sulemani Dargah. An emotional encounter at Sahitya Sant Dham saw Mittal embrace an elderly resident who had requested a meeting, illustrating the personal outreach emphasized by the campaign.
