History

Historical Context

Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign secured roughly 95 % of the Black vote, a turnout driven by a DNC-backed data operation and high-profile rallies that helped him win the presidency. That success created a template for former presidents to mobilize African-American voters, a strategy he revived in Detroit in 2026 to back Abdul El-Sayed, Jocelyn Benson, and counter Donald Trump’s attacks.
