Israel Prepares for National Election with Massive Logistical Rollout
By Drooid · · How we work
Scale of the Vote
The Central Elections Committee (CEC) reports that roughly 7.3 million Israelis are eligible to cast ballots in the upcoming national election. The committee has not clarified whether this figure includes citizens residing abroad, and Israel’s law permits absentee voting only in narrowly defined circumstances. Consequently, the CEC has urged expatriates to travel to the country for election day.
Polling Infrastructure
To accommodate the electorate, the CEC has arranged 12,018 polling stations nationwide, each equipped with ballot boxes totaling 18,000 across the country. In preparation for the vote, the committee has printed 450 million ballots—approximately 11.5 million per party list—to ensure sufficient supply at every location.
Staffing and Technology
Around 100,000 workers are slated to serve on election day, handling tasks from voter assistance to ballot handling. In addition, the CEC will deploy roughly 15,000 cameras operated by election-integrity inspectors to monitor polling stations, document the voting process, and flag any irregularities.
Financial Commitment
The election budget has been set at NIS 690 million (about US $222 million). The CEC frames this spending as essential to delivering a “proper, accessible and supervised” election, enabling citizens to exercise their voting rights without undue obstacles.
Anticipated Participation
While the exact turnout remains uncertain, the extensive logistical preparations—including the large workforce, extensive ballot printing, and heightened surveillance—signal the committee’s intent to facilitate broad voter participation and maintain confidence in the electoral outcome.
