By Drooid · · How we work

The Attack on October 18

On the evening of October 18, two men on a motorcycle opened fire on actor Tiger Shroff’s BMW as it left a football ground in Mumbai’s Juhu neighbourhood. Shroff, seated in the front passenger seat, escaped unhurt; his driver, Firdous Ibrahim Baloch, and vlogger Umesh Kumar Chauhan were injured. The three alleged shooters—Phool Singh, Rehan Rahisuddin Ansari and Rithik Mahto—were later intercepted in Kota, Rajasthan.

Police Investigation and Arrests

The Mumbai Crime Branch registered the case on October 19 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. Within hours the three shooters were taken into custody. Subsequent operations added more suspects:

  • Oct 20 – four arrests in Delhi and Haryana.
  • Oct 23 – a 22-year-old engineering student detained in Indore.

By month-end, eleven individuals—including two women—had been arrested across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.

Weapon Recovery in Surat

On October 23, Mumbai Crime Branch teams recovered two illegal firearms and ten live cartridges near Surat Railway Station. The cache was sent for forensic and ballistic analysis to determine linkage with the shell casings collected at the Juhu scene.

Role of Bike-Taxi Aggregator Rapido

State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik’s office issued a notice to Rapido seeking details of 22-year-old Hrithik Kumar, who had reportedly worked as a Rapido rider in Andheri. Rapido replied that Kumar had not been active as a bike-taxi captain on its platform since October 14 and was using the service as a customer on the day of the attack. The department gave the aggregator three to seven days to furnish the rider’s credentials and vehicle registration.

Official Statements & Responses

  • “While this is just one incident, many others are surfacing of bike-taxi drivers operating without proper police verification and domicile certificates,” — Pratap Sarnaik.
  • “One male suspect has been detained now in this case from Indore by Mumbai Crime Branch team. We are taking further legal action,” — Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotia.

On-the-Ground Accounts

“I was standing very close to his car, near the seat where he sat, next to the driver. I was starstruck and excited to be able to shoot a video of him. He interacted with us briefly and asked how we were doing,” — Umesh Kumar Chauhan.

Conflicting Reports & Gaps

Tiger Shroff’s own words have been reported inconsistently. “I have no enmity with anyone… so why was I attacked,” — Tiger Shroff, while his team later denied that he had made such a comment. Advocate Ajinkya Mirgal questioned the lack of recovered weapons despite multiple arrests.
