Historical Context

In June 1975, after the Allahabad High Court voided Indira Gandhi’s 1971 election win, she urged President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed to proclaim an emergency under Article 352, citing internal disturbance. The order suspended civil liberties, censored the press and detained over 100,000 opponents, including Jayaprakash Narayan and Morarji Desai. Today’s “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao” march revives the 1975 call for parliamentary accountability.
