History

Historical Context

The 2005 unilateral Gaza disengagement, championed by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, removed over 8,000 settlers from 21 Gaza settlements and four West Bank outposts after the Second Intifada, reshaping Israel’s electoral map. Today, the October 27 2026 Knesset vote—featuring 2,000 Hebron residents ordered to leave and 70,000 diaspora voters returning—echoes that demographic-driven relocation and its political fallout.
