History

Historical Context

In 1999 the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar flew roughly 783 combat sorties, proving high-altitude air power and prompting the early-2000s induction of Sukhoi-30MKI fighters and accelerated development of the HAL Tejas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for indigenous and partnered platforms is reflected today at Varanasi’s “Wings over Ganges” air show, which displays Su-30MKIs, Rafales, Mirage 2000s, Tejas, MiG-29s and Jaguars.
