Core Release Details

Apple announced today that iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 are now available for all devices capable of running iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, respectively. The update reaches the iPhone Duo and all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, as well as iPads that support iPadOS 27, including the newly announced OLED iPad mini. The software can be downloaded over the air via Settings > General > Software Update. Apple also released a security-focused iOS 26.7.2 alongside the major update.

Siri AI Gains Multilingual Memory and Context

The assistant also draws on a broader set of personal data—including photos attached to Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, Safari history, and Reading List—to generate answers. Siri AI support has been added for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, though the feature remains unavailable in the European Union and mainland China.

App-Level Enhancements

  • Apple Music receives a new black-and-white icon and refreshed widgets with black backgrounds; the selected tab’s accent color changes from red to blue.
  • Messages introduces Suggested Actions that can create Calendar events or Reminders directly from conversation context.
  • Podcasts adds a Home tab split into “New Episodes” and “Continue Playing” sections.
  • Apple TV now offers Simple Profiles so household members can maintain separate viewing histories and recommendations.
  • Games includes a Friends tab showing friend suggestions and recent gameplay.
  • Photos adds SynthID watermarking to identify AI-generated or edited images and lets users edit captions and comments in Shared Albums.

New Device Capabilities

iPhone Duo gains Apple Pencil support (USB-C only) and an Edge Light feature that illuminates the user’s face during video calls. FaceTime now permits third-party sign-language interpreters or live captioners. The Home app adds lock-after-closing and door-left-open alerts for compatible smart locks, while HomePod receives a Lock Controls setting to prevent accidental activation.

Installation Guidance

Users can install the update by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update and following the on-screen prompts. The rollout is expected to reach compatible devices worldwide over the coming days.
