History

Historical Context

In October 1973, as the Yom Kippur War unfolded, the United States initially hesitated to expand arms shipments to Israel, then launched Operation Nickel Grass on 9 October, ultimately delivering over 22,000 tons of materiel. Decades later, Ukraine’s request for about 350 Patriot interceptors a month has yielded just 24 in three months, echoing the pattern of delayed U.S. supplies.
