The tournament featured 16 national teams, generated $1 million in prize money, and spotlighted stars like Michelle Akers, who scored twice. Today's Arsenal Women versus Tottenham Hotspur Women clash echoes that breakthrough, as clubs invest in talent and seek to end Arsenal’s five-game slump. The 1991 tournament’s legacy urges federations to expand leagues, promising higher revenues and broader participation across Europe and beyond for women's football.
