History

Historical Context

In the 2011-12 season the defending champion Dallas Mavericks began 0-3, then were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder—a rare opening for a title-holder. The same pattern reappeared in 2024-25 when the New York Knicks fell to an 0-3 start, reviving concerns about early-season collapses for recent champions and intensified pressure on front offices.
