History

Historical Context

Tom Brady’s season-ending ACL tear in the Patriots’ 2008 opener sparked an 11-5 campaign that missed the playoffs—the first 11-win team to do so since the 12-team playoff expansion in 1990—while backup Matt Cassel set a franchise record with 22 touchdown passes. That precedent mirrors today’s Dak Prescott-Eagles clash, where Jalen Hurts’ blood-clot absence again threatens playoff outcomes.
