History

Historical Context

On 26 November 2008, ten Lashkar-e-Taiba gunmen carried out the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, killing 175 people and injuring over 300. The assault prompted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to launch a massive security response, create the National Investigation Agency and adopt stricter anti-terror laws. Those reforms shape the authorities’ reaction to today’s Guwahati shootings.
