History

Historical Context

In 1994, India launched the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), unifying disparate college admissions under a single national test. The inaugural AIEEE attracted 1.5 million applicants, and the Ministry of Human Resource Development allocated INR2 billion for its nationwide rollout. Today, the National Testing Agency’s 2026-27 calendar mirrors that centralization by coordinating UGC NET, CSIR-UGC NET, and JEE Main registrations across India. This continuity reinforces standardized assessment’s role in shaping higher-education pathways, prompting institutions to align curricula with large-scale testing outcomes.
