History

Historical Context

After Sir Alex Ferguson retired in May 2013, Manchester United installed David Moyes on a six-year deal; despite winning the Community Shield, his side slipped to a seventh-place finish with 64 points—the club’s lowest league spot since 1990—and he was dismissed in April 2014. That rapid turnover taught United that swift managerial change can halt decline, a lesson shaping today’s Carrick recall debate.
