History

Historical Context

The 2016 Larry Nassar sexual-abuse scandal shattered U.S. gymnastics, prompting nationwide reforms and the creation of the U.S. Center for SafeSport. USA Gymnastics later paid $380 million to more than 265 victims after Department of Justice investigations exposed systemic failures through court rulings. Similarly, i9 Sports expelled Nevada from Winter Park’s soccer league in 2024, leading to a $300 refund and mentorship by U.S. Men’s striker Eddie Johnson. The parallel underscores heightened scrutiny of youth-sports governance, urging the U.S. Soccer Federation and local clubs to adopt SafeSport protocols and transparent disciplinary procedures.
