History

Historical Context

Tamil Nadu’s prison system has long grappled with security lapses, highlighted by a 1995 escape from Puzhal Central Prison. The recent breach at Thekkampatti sub-jail, where dozens of undertrials fled, echoes that earlier incident and has prompted the state to revive investigative teams and consider tighter cell-locking measures and allocate resources.
