Escape from Northwest Correctional Complex
On Sunday night officials at the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, Tennessee, discovered that 28-year-old inmate Jacob Morley was missing. The Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) said the escape was detected at about 11:30 p.m. after an emergency count. Surveillance footage later showed Morley slipping through a perimeter fence while still wearing his prison uniform.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) released video from a nearby farm that captured Morley opening the driver’s side door of a white 2008 Ford F-350, marked with Tennessee plates and a Lindamood Planting Company logo, and driving away at roughly 1 a.m. early Monday. Firefighters in Hornbeak, about 12 miles east of the farm, reported that the truck passed their station about 15 minutes later. The vehicle was recovered abandoned on Tuesday in Marion, Illinois, roughly 120 miles north of the prison, but Morley’s whereabouts remain unknown.
TDOC and TBI have placed Morley on the state’s “most wanted” list and offered a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to his arrest. Both agencies have urged residents near the prison to review home-security, doorbell, and trail-camera footage for possible sightings.

Northwest Correctional Complex houses up to 1,776 male inmates. A grand jury in July returned dozens of indictments related to inmate murders, assaults on staff and other violent acts at the complex.
An audit released in 2023 highlighted a 61 % vacancy rate for correctional officers at the complex, indicating staffing shortages that officials have linked to broader safety concerns. The Department of Correction reported 470 open positions among its 6,000-person workforce.
