History

Operation Martillo, a multinational anti-drug effort led by U.S. Southern Command and JIATF-South, began on 15 January 2012 and by February 2017 had seized about 693 tons of cocaine with partner navies such as Colombia’s. The October 27 2026 interception of a suspected smuggling boat continues that aggressive maritime targeting, reflecting the long-term shift toward lethal force in U.S. counter-narcotics policy.
