History

In 2016 the Obama EPA adopted a methane rule for roughly 500,000 wells, targeting a 30% cut and $1 billion in avoided climate damages. The Trump administration’s 2018 proposal would add about 380,000 tons of methane through 2025 and roll back 98 environmental rules. At a Texas rally on October 27 2026, President Trump, supported by Ken Paxton and Lee Zeldin, pledged to dismantle the rule.
