History

In 1995 rookie point guard Gary Payton sprained his ankle and missed the SuperSonics’ first four games, yet Seattle opened the season 2-0. The setback came just before the franchise’s run to the 1996 NBA Finals, a season that launched Payton’s career that later included the league’s first point-guard Defensive Player of the Year award (1996) and Hall of Fame induction in 2013.
