History

Deputy Secretary Robert O. Work launched Project Maven in April 2017 to give the Pentagon a tactical edge. The Defense Department created the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center in June 2018, supporting operations that deployed over 2,000 munitions and partnering with firms such as Google. In 2024 India’s Ministry of Defence signed an AI MoU with Sarvam AI, extending the push for AI ecosystems across Asia.
