History

In September 2019 Houthi drones and missiles hit Saudi Aramco’s Abqaiq and Khurais plants, cutting output from 9.8 to about 4.1 million barrels per day – roughly 5 % of global supply. The strike, tied to the Saudi-led Yemen war that began in 2015, prompted Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to boost Gulf air-defense and invite U.S. troops. The October 2026 fire at Ras Tanura repeats the vulnerability of Saudi oil infrastructure.
