Historical Context
- August 2014 the United States formed a coalition with Jordan and Saudi Arabia to bomb ISIS in Iraq and Syria. By December 2017 the coalition reported killing about 80,000 ISIS fighters and hitting numerous targets, establishing joint security cooperation. In 2024 Jordan’s foreign minister Ayman Safadi and Syrian officials revived that cooperation by creating a joint security committee after ISIS attacks near the Nassib crossing.
